About Us
The Neuroscience Center at Sacred Heart Hospital is committed to excellence in serving patients recovering from neurosurgery and other medical conditions involving the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. Our department also includes a neuro step-down unit where highly specialized neurological care is delivered by skilled physicians and nurses. Our staff of registered nurses utilizes a team approach to ensure that each patient receives the highest quality care available.
A Primary Stroke Center is also part of our Neuroscience Center. Our center’s partnership with our hospital’s Emergency Medical & Trauma Center and the Center for Imaging enables our medical staff to rapidly evaluate patients through the use of advanced neuro-imaging and provide comprehensive care with proven treatment methods. In addition, our hospital’s L.E. Phillips Rehabilitation Center provides patients with specialized services for neuro-rehabilitation to restore the patient to maximum function. Several of our nurses have advanced education and are Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurses (CNRN).
Sacred Heart Hospital is the only hospital in the area to perform intra-arterial cerebral thrombolysis, a life-saving procedure that attacks blood clots in the brain. We also offer western Wisconsin’s only use of the life-saving MERCI Retrieval System. In emergency stroke cases, this technology provides hope when the window of opportunity for conventional drug therapy intervention has closed.
We are also the only hospital in the region with a CARF-accredited inpatient rehabilitation facility.
