When You Arrive
Admission
Your physician, a member of the Sacred Heart Hospital medical staff, will arrange for your admission to Sacred Heart Hospital.
The Admitting Office has a pre-registration program for your convenience. You may call (715) 717-3906 (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) to pre-register for admission or outpatient services. Pre-registration expedites the time spent in admitting on the date of your admission or outpatient service.
Upon arrival, you are registered in the Admitting Office. All information requested is necessary for your patient records and for processing insurance forms.
Your Care Team
Your care is provided by a team of dedicated health care professionals. The primary concern of this team is your well-being: physical, spiritual, psychological and social. Members of your care team will include:
- Physician
- Nurses
- Social Worker
- Therapists
- Pastoral Care
- Dietician
- Pharmacist
Your team will work together throughout your stay to assess your needs and provide you with the care and information that you need to return home. Planning for discharge will begin with identification of your individual needs on admission.
If you experience any pain as a result of your illness, injury or procedure, please tell your nurse. Relief of pain is part of our healing mission and your comfort is important to us.
Personal Belongings/Valuables and Money
You won’t need many personal belongings during your Hospital stay. Since there are no facilities on patient care units to secure valuables (such as sums of cash larger that $5, credit cards, jewelry, cameras and items of sentimental value), please send them home with your family or friends.
Our hospital cannot be responsible for valuables kept in your room. If you are unable to send valuables home, you may deposit them in the Hospital’s “Safekeep” safe where they will remain until your discharge. Please ask your nurse about this service.
Although our hospital will provide for most of your needs during your stay, bringing the following items may be helpful:
-
Your insurance, Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid cards
-
Your robe, slippers and sleepwear, if you prefer not to use those articles supplied by the hospital
Toiletry articles such as a comb, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo and deodorant are available if needed.
Because of safety regulations, we ask that you not use electrical appliances such as hair dryers, razors or radios that you bring from home unless they are inspected and approved by our hospital's Security Department.
Accommodations
Some hospital departments offer a choice of private or semi-private rooms. We will make every attempt to honor your preference. If you desire a private room, make your request known upon admission to the registration staff.
If you are not satisfied with your room, consult with the Department Director. He/she can arrange your transfer when a space becomes available.
Medications
All medications you will need during your stay are prescribed by your doctor and provided through our hospital pharmacy. If you brought any medications with you, give them to the nurse so that they can be identified. Those medications should be sent home with a family member or friend, or they can be stored at our hospital and returned to you upon discharge.
Care and Safety Concerns
Sacred Heart Hospital intends to provide excellent care to every patient. As a patient or family member, if you have concerns about your care or our hospital’s safety, please ask your caregiver to speak with their department director or the Patient Services House Supervisor on call. You are also welcome to call the office of our Hospital Administrator, Steve Ronstrom, at (715) 717-4131. If your concerns cannot be resolved, you may contact The Joint Commission at 1-800-994-6610 or by emailing complaint@jcaho.org.
