Green Initiatives Interview

Sacred Heart Hospital’s leaders recognize the link between healthy people and a healthy environment. This philosophy is part of the hospital’s Franciscan roots. To encourage this vital connection, leaders throughout our organization created a “Green Team” to assess past progress and current status of the hospital’s green initiatives in reducing, reusing and recycling. While the organization donates extra food daily to the local food pantry, we also provide food scraps to a local animal ranch for feeding. Sacred Heart Hospital also recycles everything from medical equipment to light bulbs and even porcelain sinks.

Click below to listen to Rick Beckler, Director of Hospitality, talk about our hospital's Green Initiatives.

Rick Beckler, Director of Hospitality
Rick Beckler’s charge at Sacred Heart Hospital has been to grow the organization into a nationally-recognized “green” facility. Sacred Heart’s efforts began with recycling materials and has grown into the development of a statewide “Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin” initiative. The program encourages organizations to purchase food from local farmers and growers in an effort to stimulate Wisconsin's agricultural economy. In fact, the hospital’s buy local efforts were recognized by the Governor of Wisconsin. Listen to Beckler’s passion and spirit on becoming a green facility.
